Trip through an Abandoned Prison

This morning I had the opportunity to tour an old abandoned prison. This prison at one time was the main prison for the District of Columbia, and had quite a reputation for being a place were “only the strong survived”. It was arguably one of the most corrupt prison systems of its time, which stories from inmates that are almost hard to believe. This includes family members that were guards (which gave inmates access to anything they desired, including weapons and drugs), prostitution (including the female guards), corrupt guards, and a high murder rate. “The Hill”, as the maximum security section was known, was not for the faint of heart.

Below are some pictures from the tour this morning. We were onsite for 3 hours, but could have easily spent twice as long there in order to see everything. We toured the maximum and minimum sections.  The juvenile complex is located further south.  Leave a comment and let me know what you think.
